A linear LED diffuser is an extruded profile, produced in continuous lengths and cut to the fixture, that converts a row of point sources into an even luminous line.
Definition
Unlike a moulded lens, a linear diffuser is extruded: the same cross-section repeats indefinitely, and lengths are cut to order. That is what makes long runs economical and allows the diffuser to match the luminaire dimension exactly.
Common types
Snap-in profiles clip into an aluminium housing; clip-on profiles grip an external edge; lay-in profiles rest on a frame; suspended and wrap-around profiles carry their own geometry. Each can be produced in clear, opal, frosted or prismatic finishes.
Material
Polycarbonate for impact and temperature resistance; PMMA for clarity and UV stability. Both run in single-colour and two-colour co-extrusion.
Typical applications
Continuous runs in offices and retail, cove and reveal detailing, industrial linear fixtures, strip-light covers and under-cabinet lighting.
