Why polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is specified when the diffuser has to survive impact, higher temperatures or rough handling. It has very high impact strength and a higher continuous service temperature than PMMA, at the cost of slightly higher haze and a softer surface that needs care in handling. UV-stabilised and flame-retardant grades are available.
